CHILD PORTRAIT
EXPERIENCE

VISION

You can’t bring a photograph to life that you can’t first imagine. Karen approaches every session with clear vision and the finished artwork in mind. Each experience begins with a no-obligation in-person initial consultation. At this meeting, we'll discuss your goals for our work together as well as mood, story, and aesthetic of the final portraits. We'll also discuss dates, locations, participants, and the overall project timeline.

At this appointment, clients receive detailed written product, pricing, and studio policy information. We'll begin conceiving of a final collection at this time.

There is never a charge for time or the number of participants. We'll plan for both a primary shoot date as well as a contingent rain date to avoid stress of rescheduling for inclement weather.

THE PORTRAIT ART SESSION

Clients may choose one of two session types : portrait art and photodocumentary.

The portrait art session lasts about 40-90 minutes at one natural light location. These sessions almost exclusively take place during "magic hour," which begins about two hours before sunset (as early as 14:00 in winter and as late as 20:00 in summer). The session may include all children, parents, and grandparents. We'll focus on classic poses of each child individually, the children together in groupings with parents and grandparents. A portrait art session yields approximately 25-40 images to select and design your collection. The product selection is à la carte with no pre-selections or minimum purchase required.

THE PHOTODOCUMENTARY SESSION

Photodocumentary sessions last 2-5 hours and are akin to a "day in the life" photojournalistic shoot. We'll photograph in a location or multiple locations within close proximity to one another in the area, focusing on daily activities, small moments, and the overall interaction of your family. Photodocumentary sessions may take place at various hours of the day. This session may include immediate family as well as extended family and friends. The session yields 100-200 images that you will receive in a beautifully designed layflat hard cover album along with the digital files in both color and black & white. This session type must be selected at the time of booking.

THE DESIGN CONSULTATION

Approximately one week following the shoot, we'll meet again to view your images and design your collection. If you choose an a portrait art session, you will view approximately 25-40 images for final selection. If you choose a photodocumentary session, you'll view the 100-200 images that will be included in your storybook album. Once your image selections are finalized, purchased and edited images will be delivered in a private password-protected gallery for download while your printed artwork is being produced.

DELIVERY & INSTALLATION

Delivery of your artwork takes place 2-6 weeks both in person and drop ship from other vendors. All framed artwork includes in-home installation in Southeast Michigan. Immediately after finalizing your order, you will receive the corresponding digital files to share and make desktop artwork on your own. The gallery will be housed in a password-protected online gallery for one year.
